The Las Cruces Space Festival returns for a third year on March 30th– April 4th 2020, providing a week of free space-related activities and events for all ages.
The Festival is growing; In 2018 we had over 1,500 people participate in three days of Festival events. In 2019, that number grew to over 5,000 during the week of the Festival and a further 3,000 visited our exhibition ‘Our Place In Space- Las Cruces’.
The Festival’s Executive Team has started to build a program for 2020 to include more education outreach, provide more hands-on activities for all ages, and host events that will bring more people to downtown Las Cruces. We need your support to make this happen. The festival is free to participate in, and open to all, with the cost of activities, presentations, displays, and exhibits all covered by sponsors.
The Las Cruces Space Festival was born out of a volunteer spirit by individuals passionate about the history, current opportunities and future possibilities for the space industry in our area. An overarching goal of the Festival is to keep it free and to “make space for everyone” and, with that in mind, we are examining setting up a formal 501(c)(3) structure.
In the meantime, the United Way of Southwest New Mexico is our Fiscal Sponsor. The education goals of the Las Cruces Space Festival fall in line with the goals of the United Way and that, combined with the success of our earlier events and the collaborative structure of the planning committee, led the United Way to offering that Fiscal sponsorship.
All donations and sponsorship made to the Las Cruces Space Festival are made to the United Way of Southwest New Mexico and held in a separate account for us. When we have payments for festival needs in the budget, they will make those payments. The United Way is not charging the festival a management fee.
We are very much appreciative of this service offered by the United Way of Southwest New Mexico. With this gift from them, your donations to this festival are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Sponsors of the Las Cruces Space Festival gain access to our online followers; our reach grew to over 60,000 profiles on Facebook ahead of the 2019 Festival and the traffic on our website soared to over 1,800 daily visits. You also get satisfaction in knowing that you are supporting STEM education in Las Cruces!
Sponsorship levels can be found here, and our Executive team are happy to meet with you to discuss further opportunities for involvement in the 2020 Las Cruces Space Festival.
The Las Cruces Space Festival is an annual celebration to recognize space-related activity and interest in southern New Mexico and beyond. We aim to raise awareness in our community and beyond of space-related activity in the region- past, present and future. We are working with the Las Cruces Public Schools and New Mexico State University to educate and inspire youth of all ages. We celebrate the anniversary of human spaceflight, known as Yuri’s Night, which lands on Easter Sunday in 2020. The Festival aims to provide entertainment and fun for all as well as enable an economic impact in Doña Ana and Sierra Counties. We are also looking to support the development and needs of a sustainable Spaceport.
Event partners include New Mexico State University, City of Las Cruces, Visit Las Cruces, Las Cruces Public Schools, Spaceport America, Virgin Galactic, NASA White Sands Test Facility, Jacobs Technology, New Mexico Space Grant, NASA White Sands Complex, KTAL Community Radio, Las Cruces Challenger Learning Center, Insights El Paso Science Center, and the Rio Grande Theatre.
