The Las Cruces Space Festival is bringing a full night of entertainment to Downtown Las Cruces for Yuri’s Night, April 12th 2019. Events will launch with a Space Walk on Main Street. Participants of all ages are encouraged to dress in their favorite space-related costumes with the best dressed awarded a prize. Sign ups for the Space Walk will be available from 5.30pm with the event starting at 6pm.
Live Music in the Plaza will be provided by Triple Jack from 7pm. There will be food trucks offering dinning options for all tastes and Little Toad Creek will be creating space cocktails for the over 21s.
At the Rio Grande Theatre, there will be a full evening of arts and talks with doors opening at 6pm. New Mexico State University (NMSU) Assistant Professor Larissa Lury will introduce an excerpt from her play ‘Yuri‘ at 7pm. Alires Almon, a graduate from Mayfield High School and NMSU, will follow with a presentation on ‘Space: Our Dream and Our Reality’. The final excerpt will be from the NMSU production of ‘Silent Sky’, a biopic by Lauren Gunderson, about the pioneering work of Astronomer Henrietta Leavitt.
