The Las Cruces Public Schools have created classroom activities for grades K-12 to coincide with the Las Cruces Space Festival. The City of Las Cruces has proclaimed April 7-13 as “Space Festival Week” and these activities help public schools in the area create fun space-themed lessons.
The classroom activities can be downloaded here and have been made available to all teachers. The earlier grades cover constellations, middle school lessons cover the solar system and higher grades cover the Moon to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo success.
The lessons applied in schools will be reinforced throughout the Festival with the exhibition ‘Our Place In Space- Las Cruces‘, hands on activities on April 11th at the ‘Making Contact‘ event at the Las Cruces Convention Center and again at the Plaza de Las Cruces for our ‘Making Space For Everyone‘ event on Saturday, April 13th. We will also be recording all our presentations and making them available on our Youtube Channel so Las Cruces Public Schools and local educators can use them during future space-related classroom activities.
