The Las Cruces Space Festival is proud to work with the Las Cruces Public Schools to bring space-themed workshops and activities to the classroom. We will be hosting NASA workshops at Vista and Mesa Middle Schools during the Space Festival week (March 30- April 4) and the Joint Polar Satellite System team from NASA and NOAA will hold workshops at Alameda and Booker T. Washington Elementary schools.
The Challenger Learning Center of Las Cruces will be hosting seven missions throughout the Space Festival week and two on the weekend. You can sign up your whole family for a free mission to Mars here. Space is limited so don’t delay!
The Challenger Learning Center team have created a list of classroom activities and lesson plans (download here) to coincide with events provided during the Space Festival. Teachers and home school families are encouraged to use these fun plans when possible. Spaceport America also has a list of STEM activities that can be used at any time to create a space-themed lesson.
We are focusing on providing pathways through education to jobs in Aerospace and the Commercial Space Industry here in Southern New Mexico. Our event ‘Making Contact‘ on April 2nd, is an education and career expo and will provide students of all ages with an opportunity to ask about what jobs and internships are available, where to apply, and what courses should be taken to achieve those positions. ‘Making Contact‘ will be held at Sierra Middle School from 5.30- 7.30pm.
