The Las Cruces Space Festival is looking forward to welcoming a ‘live’, staged reading of a new and original TV pilot script currently in development. The reading of ‘Way Beyond’ will be held at the Las Cruces Convention Center on Thursday, April 11th at 7pm as part of the ‘Making Contact‘ event and will be performed by some of New Mexico’s top acting talent. After the reading, there will be a behind-the-scenes Q&A with writer Bill True, producer Chris Davis (VP of Television at Echo Lake Entertainment), and talent.
‘Way Beyond’ is said to be like ‘Mad Men’, but set in the world of today’s commercial space industry. Here is the series synopsis:
“Once upon a time, NASA was our best hope of reaching the stars. A couple of recessions, and a change in priorities, largely put the kibosh to that. The dream isn’t dead, but the near-future of ‘The Martian’ is maddeningly ‘so close, yet so far’ it hurts. Getting there requires a whole new space race but not between countries… between companies. Those who have kept the faith have flocked to a handful of visionary entrepreneurs that have bet their fortunes on humanity’s cosmic future.
Welcome to the commercial space race!
A fatal disaster on her watch knocked engineering wunderkid Tori Gillette out of the game, but CEO Dodge Landon has persuaded her to return to save his foundering space exploration company. Though haunted by grief, Tori drive tenaciously upward to inspire the team making history before our eyes.”
This promises to be an exciting event! Please note, the TV series is expected to receive a TVMA rating for language and therefore the reading is not suitable for younger audiences.
